| Geography Kiritimati, or Christmas Island, is the largest atoll in the
Pacific. The atoll covers 222 square miles and is part of the Line Islands which
belong to the Republic of Kiribati. The island is very flat with hundreds of square
miles of pristine flats surrounding the island. There are more than 100 lakes or
ponds on Kiritimati.
The village of London is located at the Trevally Channel
and is the main village on the island. The other major villages are Tabwakea
Village, Poland and Banana Village. Travel between the villages and fishing
spots is done either by boat or by car or truck on paved roads (roads are denoted on the
map by the dotted lines). |
